Bailey House has long been providing housing for formerly homeless families.
According to New York City’s Department of Homeless Services, roughly 70 percent of city shelter residents are families with children, and the vast majority of those are headed by single mothers. As recently as December of 2019, the agency also reported that a total of 21,683 children of all ages slept in a city shelter.
In late 2019 Bailey House launched a new program for families as part of the Mayor’s initiative to develop 15,000 units of supportive housing in 15 years for homeless individuals and families with high service utilization. The new program provides housing and services to 30 young adults (ages 18 to 25) with children as the families transition from the shelter to the system to independent housing in the Bronx. The families all receive intensive case management support that includes one-to-one counseling as well as group support.
We are excited to welcome these families to the larger Bailey House family!
