Housing is Healthcare
Without safe, stable housing, meeting life’s other challenges is much more difficult. Our mission has always been that housing comes first, and we’ve steadily provided more ways for New Yorkers to find the housing solution they need.
Housing and healthcare are human rights. Our groundbreaking housing programs provide safe and stable places to live for New Yorkers experiencing homelessness, substance use, mental health, and other challenges that accompany chronic illnesses, including HIV/AIDS. We offer both congregate and independent, supportive housing options to help our clients improve their health outcomes and maintain a higher quality of life.
Our housing programs provide safe and stable places for hundreds of men, women, and children to live and thrive every year, with an extensive range of critical support services. With our comprehensive programs, clients have the services they need to improve and sustain a higher quality of life.
These are some of Bailey House’s flagship housing programs.
Supportive
- Congregate Programs. Bailey House offers a variety of congregate programs for populations that include HIV-positive single adults, veterans, and families affected by HIV. Clients receive on-site case management services for housing stability and optimal health outcomes.
- Scattered-Site Programs. These programs provide permanent, supportive housing for single adults, families, and young adults across New York City. We established the first scattered-site housing program in the nation for people with HIV/AIDS. Other scattered-site programs serve many vulnerable New Yorkers, including homeless adults, families with chronic health conditions, and LGBTQ young adults who are homeless or living in unstable conditions.
Independent
- Housing Placement Assistance. We place individuals with HIV in independent housing across New York City and assist with the up-front costs of securing housing.
- Rental Support. We understand how difficult it can be to find and maintain affordable housing in New York City. We provide rental support to prevent eviction and ensure housing continuity for individuals who are at risk of losing their homes.
- Short-Term Housing. We provide housing for up to two years for individuals with HIV, with a goal of helping them find long-term, permanent housing.
Young Adults
A supportive housing initiative for adults 18-26 with, or at risk for, HIV. Most identify as LGBTQ. The program offers housing and vital care services, supporting clients with intensive case management to connect them to medical care, while ensuring secure housing. With a focus on stability and prevention, the young adult program promotes personal growth and fosters wellness and independence.
